Geeksnet is now offering an exciting new feature for our mail users.
Gee-Sentry is a spam server that reduces the amount of spam relayed
to/from our users. Below are some answers to common questions:
1. How does Gee-Sentry work?
Gee-Sentry blocks spam in four ways. First,
it uses “spam databases” to check if senders are known
spammers. These databases are updated hourly with the Internet
addresses (IP) of known spammers. Second, Gee-Sentry looks for
actual sender email addresses that are malformed or match return
addresses commonly used by spammers. Third, Gee-Sentry also checks
the subject and body of the message for text that is considered
spam. Finally, Gee-Sentry rejects email with potentially harmful
attachments. This feature is implemented because of the increasing
amount of spam that carries “mail viruses” that execute
automatically.
2. What will someone get if they are blocked by
Gee-Sentry?
Gee-Sentry replies to senders of rejected mail
with a very informative email message that lists the exact reason
why the mail was blocked. The user can then contact Geeksnet technical
support to resolve the problem.
3. What attachments are being blocked?
Gee-Sentry blocks attachments ending in exe,
ex_, eml, dll, scr, pif, com, bat, shs, shb, vxd, rm, chm, vbs,
ini, cmd, do, hta, reg, lnk, js, jse, net. If you need to send
an attachment matching one of these file formats, you can zip
the file using Winzip first and then send it.
4. What settings do I change on my computer to
use Gee-Sentry?
None. Gee-Sentry automatically scans mail for
you.

experience as painless as possible. Gee-Sentry will address an issue
that is plaguing Internet users all over the world. We will continue
to fine tune Gee-Sentry to provide the best possible Spam solution.
